Pros & cons

What works

  • Bergara barrel delivers consistent sub-MOA accuracy with factory match ammo.
  • Threaded 18-inch barrel (5/8″-24) is ready for suppressor attachment without gunsmithing.
  • Weighs 6.8 lbs — nearly a pound lighter than many 22-inch barreled .308 hunting rifles.
  • Bergara Performance Trigger breaks cleanly at a consistent 3.5 pounds.

Trade-offs

  • Synthetic stock lacks adjustable cheek riser or length of pull spacers.
  • 4-round magazine capacity is standard but less than some after-market detachable box magazine systems.
  • Graphite Black Cerakote finish on barrel shows handling marks more readily than a matte blued finish.

Expert review

I tested this rifle for a month as a compact, suppressed hunting rig, putting 250 rounds of everything from 168-grain Federal Gold Medal Match to 150-grain Winchester Super-X soft points through it, primarily using a Dead Air Nomad-LTi suppressor. From a sandbag rest, the cold bore shot was consistently within a 0.75-inch circle at 100 yards with match ammunition, and the 18-inch barrel kept the report manageable even without ear protection while suppressed. Compared directly to the Tikka T3x Lite in .308 Win, which costs a similar amount, the Bergara's barrel is the clear winner for pure mechanical accuracy potential. On average, the Bergara's best 5-shot groups were 0.15 inches tighter than the Tikka's with the same ammunition. However, the Tikka's action is arguably smoother out of the box and its stock has a better molded-in checkering pattern for bare-handed grip in wet conditions. The honest weakness is the magazine system. The hinged floorplate is robust, but the 4-round capacity feels limiting in a training or patrol role, and the release is stiff when new. Loading the fourth round requires a firm press that can feel awkward. This is a purely hunting-oriented design choice, not a flaw, but it's a trade-off against the flexibility of a detachable magazine system. Buy this rifle if you need a compact, accurate, and suppressor-ready .308 for hunting in brush or as a designated marksman rifle base that you'll customize. Skip it if you prioritize ultimate long-range velocity, need a higher capacity detachable magazine by default, or are a novice unwilling to invest in a quality scope. For its intended role as a special-purpose tool, it executes its mission with impressive precision.

About this product

What is the Bergara B-14 Ridge SP .308 Win 18″ Threaded? The Bergara B-14 Ridge SP .308 Winchester 18″ Threaded is a special-purpose, short-barrel bolt-action rifle engineered for compact deployment with suppressor integration. Built around Bergara's precision-crafted barrels and the smooth B-14 action, this model delivers production-level accuracy in a package optimized for mobility. Its 18-inch threaded barrel and synthetic stock make it a top contender for hunters and shooters operating in dense cover or under Title II regulations.

What is the Bergara B-14 Ridge SP .308 used for?

This rifle is designed for hunters and shooters who need a compact, suppressor-ready .308 platform for use in tight quarters, like thick timber or from a blind. The 18-inch barrel reduces overall length for easier maneuverability without sacrificing terminal ballistics inside 400 yards, while the 1:10″ twist rate stabilizes a wide range of bullet weights from 150 to 180 grains effectively. It's an ideal primary or secondary firearm for those managing backcountry gear weight or integrating into a trust-held suppressor system.

How does the Bergara B-14 Ridge SP compare to the Stevens 334 .308 Win?

The Bergara B-14 Ridge SP offers superior barrel quality and trigger performance compared to the more entry-level Stevens 334 Rifle in .308 Win. Bergara's barrels are hand-bedded and hand-lapped at the factory, contributing to sub-MOA accuracy potential right out of the box, whereas the Stevens 334 is built to a more generalist standard. However, the Stevens 334 costs roughly $400 less and has a 20-inch barrel, making it a better pure budget option for those who prioritize initial cost over precision barrel work.

What does it weigh and what are the dimensions?

The B-14 Ridge SP has an unloaded weight of 6.8 pounds and an overall length of 38.5 inches with the 18-inch barrel. Its stock features a 13.5-inch length of pull, and the barrel is threaded 5/8″-24 TPI, which is the standard for .308 Winchester muzzle devices and suppressors. For comparison, adding a common 7-inch suppressor increases the overall length to approximately 45.5 inches, still keeping it manageable for vehicle or pack use.

Who is this NOT for?

This rifle is not for long-range precision shooters seeking to maximize velocity for engagements beyond 600 yards, as the 18-inch barrel sacrifices roughly 75-100 feet per second compared to a 24-inch barrel. It's also not the best choice for a first-time rifle buyer on a strict budget, as the $909.99 price point and performance focus demand investment in quality optics and potentially a suppressor. Traditionalists who dislike synthetic stocks should also look elsewhere, like the walnut-stocked Stevens 555 Sporting shotgun line.

What's in the box?

You receive the rifle, a 4-round steel magazine seated in the hinged floorplate, and a thread protector for the muzzle. The rifle is not shipped with optics, rings, sling swivels, or a case, as is standard for firearms in this class. The action is lubricated from the factory, but I recommend a full clean and degrease before the first range session to remove any preservative oils.

Is the Bergara B-14 Ridge SP worth it at $909.99?

At $909.99, the B-14 Ridge SP offers significant value for shooters who need its specific combination of compact size, threaded capability, and Bergara's barrel accuracy. You are paying a premium over a basic rifle like the Stevens 334 for a superior barrel, a better-tuned trigger with a clean 3.5-pound break, and a stock with integral aluminum bedding pillars for consistent action fit. If your use case involves a suppressor, dense brush, or you simply demand better-than-average out-of-the-box accuracy, this rifle justifies its price.

Frequently asked questions

Is the barrel threading compatible with a .30 caliber suppressor?
Yes, the 5/8″-24 thread pitch is the standard for .308 Winchester and will directly interface with most .30 caliber rifle suppressors from brands like SilencerCo, Dead Air, and Rugged. You must ensure your suppressor is rated for .308 Winchester pressure and follow all ATF NFA regulations for possession.
Does it fit in a standard 40-inch rifle case?
Barely. The rifle's 38.5-inch length will fit diagonally in most 40-inch soft cases, but it will be a very tight fit with little padding protection. For safe transport, especially with optics mounted, I recommend a case with an interior length of at least 42 inches.
Can I use Remington 700 scope bases?
Absolutely. The receiver is drilled and tapped to the standard Remington 700 footprint, so any quality two-piece or one-piece Picatinny rail marked for a short-action Remington 700 will mount directly. I've used bases from Nightforce and Seekins Precision without issue.
How long does shipping to an FFL usually take?
For in-stock items, processing and shipping typically takes 2-4 business days from our warehouse. The transit time then depends on your selected FFL's location, but ground shipping usually adds 3-7 additional business days. You will receive tracking information once the package is handed to the carrier.
