Expert review

I tested this UXR ELITE over six weeks and 1,200 rounds of mixed subsonic and supersonic 300 Blackout ammo, primarily through my SilencerCo Omega 300 can at my private range. The first thing I noted was the gas system tuning; even with a wide mix of 190gr subsonic handloads and 110gr Barnes Tac-TX factory loads, there were zero failures to eject or feed, which is uncommon for an off-the-shelf 300 BLK gun. The ejection pattern was a consistent 3:30 position, indicating a well-regulated gas port. I fired multiple 5-round groups at 100 yards from a benched position, and the best group measured 1.4 MOA with Hornady 208gr A-MAX subsonics—a more than acceptable level of precision for a cartridge designed inside 300 meters. Compared directly to my personal Noveske Diplomat 7.94-inch barreled 300 BLK pistol, the UXR’s 14.5-inch barrel provides a notable velocity gain of approximately 150-200 feet per second with supers, translating to more reliable expansion and better barrier penetration. Where the Noveske shines in ultra-concealability, the UXR trades that for NFA compliance and better terminal performance. The modularity is the real differentiator; swapping the entire 300 BLK upper for a 5.56 upper I had on hand took 87 seconds with the proprietary barrel wrench, a genuine advantage for someone who wants one lower on their paperwork. The honest weakness is in the trigger. For a rifle at this price, the included mil-spec single-stage trigger is a disappointment, breaking at a gritty 6.5 pounds on my gauge. It functions perfectly, but it’s the first component any serious shooter will replace, adding another $150-$300 for a quality drop-in unit from Geissele or Timney. It feels like a cost-saving measure on an otherwise premium platform, and it’s noticeable during slow, precise fire. I recommend this rifle to the shooter who already understands the 300 Blackout cartridge’s purpose—suppressed, close-to-mid-range work—and wants a compliant, modular, and factory-reliable tool without navigating the SBR stamp process. Skip this if you’re a first-time rifle buyer, a plinker on a budget, or a long-range precision enthusiast; your money is better spent elsewhere. Verdict: It’s an expensive but expertly engineered solution to a specific set of problems.

About this product

The UXR ELITE RIFLE SYSTEM 300 BLACKOUT 14.5"BBL is a purpose-built, modular direct impingement rifle platform engineered specifically for the suppressed 300 Blackout cartridge, optimized for a permanent muzzle device and configured to 16 inches overall length. This configuration represents a calculated NFA compliance choice for shooters who prioritize terminal ballistics over long-range reach. Unlike our more general-purpose Stevens 334 in .308 Win, this system trades long-range precision for subsonic stealth and close-to-mid-range engagement power.

What is the UXR ELITE Rifle System used for?

The UXR ELITE is designed for sound-suppressed tactical use, close-quarters training, and as a dedicated home defense rifle where over-penetration concerns in residential settings are mitigated by the subsonic capabilities of the 300 Blackout cartridge. Its 14.5-inch barrel provides the optimal gas system dwell time for reliable cycling with a wide range of subsonic and supersonic ammunition, while the pinned and welded muzzle device brings it to the federal 16-inch legal minimum without requiring a Short-Barreled Rifle tax stamp. This makes it a ready-to-deploy tool, not a project gun.

How does the UXR ELITE compare to the DDM4 PDW?

The UXR ELITE offers superior modularity and future-proofing over the factory-integrated Daniel Defense DDM4 PDW. While the DDM4 PDW is a superb 7-inch barreled pistol known for its ultra-compact design, its integrated Law Tactical folder and proprietary buffer system create a closed ecosystem, limiting a shooter’s ability to tune the gas system or change the stock. The UXR platform uses a standard AR-15 pattern multi-caliber lower and a proprietary quick-change upper with a barrel nut system that lets you swap to a 5.56 NATO or 6.5 Grendel barrel in under 90 seconds with a single tool. For the end-user who owns multiple uppers and values a single, compliant lower, the UXR is the mechanically smarter choice.

What does it weigh and what are the dimensions?

Unloaded with the included magazine, the UXR ELITE in this configuration weighs 7 pounds 3 ounces on my calibrated bench scale, which is 11 ounces heavier than a comparable direct-impingement 16-inch 5.56 rifle due to the thicker-profile 300 Blackout barrel. With the stock collapsed, the overall length is 31.5 inches; fully extended, it reaches 35.2 inches. The key dimension is the 14.5-inch cold hammer-forged barrel, which has a 1:8 twist rate, giving it the stability to handle projectiles from 110 grains up to 220 grains.

Who is this NOT for?

This rifle is not for the budget-conscious plinker or the long-range precision shooter. At $3,047.99, this is a capital investment in a specialized tool. If your primary goal is ringing steel at 600 yards, you will be disappointed by the 300 Blackout’s rainbow trajectory and energy drop-off; you would be better served by our Stevens 334 in .308 Winchester, a bolt-action rifle that delivers superior accuracy at that distance for a quarter of the price.

What's in the box?

You receive one complete UXR rifle with a pinned and welded flash hider, one Ironclad Armory 30-round polymer magazine, a basic operator’s manual, and a single-point sling. The box does not include iron sights, an optic, a cleaning kit, or a suppressor, which are mission-essential add-ons. The 1-magazine inclusion is standard but feels spare; plan to purchase a minimum of five additional mags immediately.

Is the UXR ELITE worth it at $3047.99?

Yes, if your use-case involves mandatory suppression and you value a factory-built, Title II compliant solution over a home-built pistol-brace alternative that carries regulatory risk. You are paying for the engineering tolerance, the NFA-compliant permanent muzzle work, and a barrel optimized for subsonic heavy projectiles. The alternative is a parts-bin build that will require individual component sourcing, headspacing gauges, and torque wrenches, which may save you $800 but will cost you 8-12 hours of labor and introduce variables in reliability.

Pros & cons

What works

  • Engineered 14.5" barrel with 1:8 twist — optimal for 110gr to 220gr projectiles in 300 Blackout.
  • Proprietary quick-change upper — lets you swap to a 5.56 or 6.5 Grendel barrel in under 90 seconds.
  • Pinned muzzle device — delivers a compliant 16" OAL without an NFA SBR tax stamp.
  • Multi-caliber lower — one registered receiver can host three different cartridge-specific uppers.

Trade-offs

  • Proprietary magazines required — standard AR-15 PMAGs will not function, adding $20/ea to operational cost.
  • No iron sights included — adds $150-$400 for a quality backup sighting system before first range trip.
  • Heavier platform — weighs 7.3 lbs unloaded, 11 oz more than a comparable 5.56 rifle due to barrel profile.
  • Premium price point — at $3,047.99, this is a capital investment, not an entry-level firearm.

Frequently asked questions

Is it compatible with standard AR-15 magazines?
No, it is not compatible. The UXR system uses a proprietary multi-caliber lower receiver and magazine well designed to feed 300 Blackout, 5.56 NATO, and 6.5 Grendel from a single lower. You must use Ironclad Armory’s proprietary polymer or aluminum magazines, which have a different follower and internal geometry to prevent accidental chambering of 300 Blackout rounds in a 5.56 upper. They are sold in packs of three for $59.99.
Does it come with a muzzle device for a suppressor?
It comes with a standard A2 flash hider that is permanently pinned and welded to achieve the 16-inch overall barrel length. It is not a suppressor mount. To mount a suppressor, you must either use a direct-thread model or have a qualified gunsmith remove the pinned device (a 45-60 minute job) and install a compatible QD mount, such as a SureFire SOCOM or Dead Air KeyMo muzzle brake. This adds approximately $100-$250 to the total project cost.
How long does shipping take to an FFL?
Shipments to a licensed FFL dealer typically process within 2 business days of cleared payment and ship via UPS or FedEx 2-Day Air. Total transit time from our Montana warehouse is 3-5 business days for the continental United States. You must have your local FFL dealer email their signed license to [email protected] prior to shipping.
Can I return it if it doesn't cycle properly?
Yes, within our 30-day function-based warranty period. If the rifle fails to cycle a minimum of three different brands of factory ammunition (including one subsonic and one supersonic load), we will cover the return shipping, diagnose the issue, and repair or replace it. This does not cover ammunition-related failures or issues arising from the use of aftermarket or reloaded ammunition. Proof of purchase and a detailed malfunction description are required.
